India-Russia Education Ties Deepen as Kalmyk State University Admits First Indian MBBS Batch
In a landmark step for India-Russia academic cooperation, Kalmyk State University has welcomed its first group of Indian MBBS students this week.
The students met Rector Salaev Badma Katinovich, who extended support for their academic journey and integration into local culture. Joining the session was Dr. Vijay Vishnoi, Indian Student Representative at the University, who underlined the long-term significance of people-to-people and cultural linkages between the two countries.
The move also coincides with Kalmykia’s preparations for the International Buddhist Forum, scheduled for 25–28 September, which will draw global leaders and scholars to deliberate on Buddhism’s role in peace-building and intercultural dialogue.
For the Indian cohort, the timing offers more than just entry into medical education abroad—it also places them at the heart of a global cultural and spiritual dialogue. Rus Education, which facilitated the admissions, said the initiative reflects “a pathway to global careers and a unique cultural immersion for Indian medical students.”
After opening its doors to Indian students, Kalmyk State University is positioning itself as a rising destination for international education, while adding a new chapter to the evolving partnership between India and Russia.
